Sweet as Bear Meat features two of swing’s hottest names right now: tenor saxophonist Enric Peidro and guitarist Jonathan Stout.Whether you’re seeking swing tranquilizers or picker-uppers, Sweet as Bear Meat is the prescription you need. (Dave Doyle/ Syncopated times) ------------------------------------------------------------------- GET IT FROM BANDCAMP HERE: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- In today's world of barnstorming Big Band dance groups and conservatory modern jazz ensembles, it can be easy to forget the laid-back side of Swing. The breathy, reedy, after-hours lilting of sax greats like Prez, Hodges, and Webster. The intimate musical conversations of virtuosos chilling like close friends, like family. The rhythm section sitting so far in the pocket you either want to get up and dance, or just lean back, sip a cocktail, and float in it. Enric Peidro and Jonathan Stout have clearly not forgotten.Peidro, as usual, plays the "plumbing" like butter, and Stout, unsurprisingly, turns his guitar into the perfect companion. They lilt, they swing, they chill like family. This album is 14 beautiful, living, small-group swing songs, with all the glory of modern fidelity, and the passion of new voices honoring their pioneers. It's not just music for dancing --- it's music for dancing effortlessly. (Bobby White / International swing dance instructor, historian, and writer of the blog Swungover) ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Immerse yourself into a mesmerizing dream of Enric Peidro’s jazz where swing tells a never-ending story of their blues, which has no beginning, but is here as long as there is a heartbeat. It’s difficult to call it a new album - Enric Peidro and his band have mastered the feeling of continuity as if they never stopped playing but somebody had to cut a piece of their eternal swing and release it as an album or another album or a new album. It's got to be sweetness, you dig? (Arnas Razgūnas / International dance instructor / DJ ) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- An awesome album !! Enric never stops to surprise us!
From the graphics of the cover to the selection of songs, all is made with great care. The records takes us through some elegant arrangements and makes you move your feet from the very first notes. Not to mention the fantastic combination of the Enric's saxophone with Stout's guitar. Please we want more !!! What a LUXURY to have Enric near us (Javi Zurdo & Lucia Gailana. International dance instructors) ------------------------------------------------------------------ |
"Jonathan Stout reunites with the Enric Peidro Quartet for "Sweet As Bear Meat", a follow up to last year’s “Groove At First Sight” collaboration. Together they intimately swing through a collection of standards and lesser-known gems. Each and every solo is outstanding. Tap your toes, nod your head and swing out to this delightful album! We loved to listen to the new album. We felt the blues but also the hope and beams of better days in their new tunes. We like the collaboration between Enric and Jonathan and very much look forward to be dancing to their music and listening to it live.( Bianca Locatelli & Nils Andrén / International dance instructors) For someone who is already a fan of both Enric's and Jonathan's music, this is a gem The album is just pure quality. All top notch musicians. It's amazing what Jonathan’s guitar playing adds to the rhythm section, and I love his guitar solos. Enric’s rich and heartwarming tenor sax just moves me. I can listen to this at home as much as it is great for all kinds of swing dancing. My favorite tunes are Johnny Come Lately and Taps Miller (Andreas Olsson / International dance instructor) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- |
It´s the perfect album to have your best dance partner close:It swings, it's groovy, it´s sensual, melancholic and intimate as well. As a jazz lover, I find a million layers to explore on every tune: as soon as you discover one, three more are to be found under that one.To find all that there's in each song will take a hundred listenings
All over the recording its a joy to listen Jonathan´s clear and deep right hand, while Richard surprises you with a mellow and tasty lick. then Enric comes in playing like the one who knows the end of the movie but enjoys mischievously teasing you all the way, but....no spoilers.
I am really looking forward to see them together again, and just watch the people enjoying dancing like mad all over the dance floor. (Gas Fernandez.International dance instructor)
